Thermocline thermal storage modeling towards its predictive optimal management

The increasing penetration of renewable energies brings into sharp relief the potential thermal storages, particularly in multi-energy networks. Indeed, they offer low storage cost without environmental concerns. But since physical phenomena during operation thermocline storages are complex, associated models come with long calculation times. Consequently, their integration within live management networks is challenging at current time. Hence, this work proposes meta modeling based on simulation data from previous as an alternative to modeling. developed model compared three different varying complexity. Compared a typical same spatial dimension, time reduced by factor up 1000 while losses well internal temperature distribution estimations equally provided. In experimental validation four configurations capacities between 450 and 2900 kWhth, normalized root mean square deviation lower than 3% results observed. Moreover, often fail depict real-life behavior for example due manufacturing defects or highly dimension-dependent like flow channeling. order overcome practical challenge, construction use basis existing successfully demonstrated experiments below 4%.
